Bhat-Bhateni goes online

KATHMANDU, June 28:
Bhat-Bhateni Super Market and Departmental Store (BBSM) - one of the leading retail chains in the country - has ventured into online trading of products. Customers at both home and abroad can now purchase stuffs at Bhat-Bhateni through its online portal bhatbhatenionline.com.
“We´ve ventured into online retail service to make shopping easier for local as well as consumers residing abroad,” said Manish Shrestha, portal chief of Bhat-Bhateni.
“Though virtual shopping is relatively a new concept in Nepal, it is slowly but surely catching up among general public. As Bhat-Bhateni is the first department store to launch such service, it is expected to grow in the coming days.”
As the store delivers products without charging any extra service charges on the tag price, Shrestha is hopeful that the service will become popular among consumers.
Though the service has yet to be launched formally, Bhat-Bhateni is already recording daily transactions of around $300.
Customers can purchase over 5,000 varieties of products ranging from groceries to electronic items and liquors among others through e-Sewa and PayPal payment gateways using their credit cards.
Shrestha said Bhat-Bhateni plans to make available more products online in the near future.
Local customers are required to register themselves in e-Sewa before buying products from products from Bhat-Bhateni´s online shop. Those living abroad, however, can make payments through PayPal. Once the order is placed, Bhat-Bhateni delivers products to desired recipients within 24 hours. It offers free home delivery of products worth more than Rs 5,000. It charges Rs 150 as delivery fee for products worth less than Rs 5,000.
“Nepalis living abroad have already started purchasing commodities for their family members in Nepal from our online shop,” Shrestha said, adding that they have been getting orders mostly for rice, liquors and electronic products like television and refrigerators.
Bhat-Bhateni plans to introduce special offers for its online buyers during festival and special occasions. It plans to add more products in its online shop by the upcoming Dashain festival.
“We are receiving orders mostly from Nepalis living abroad,” Shrestha said, adding, “We expect online business volume to grow further provided that the government makes online payment channels easier and accessible for local consumers.”
