Barabise Substation Construction Completed, Vital for Sindhupalchok Power Connectivity

The construction of the Barabise substation, crucial for linking Sindhupalchok and nearby districts to Nepal's national power grid, has been completed. The substation, equipped with 160 MVA, 132/11 kV, and 5 MVA power transformers, boasts a total capacity of 220/132 kV and features Gas Insulated System (GIS) technology. Testing of all equipment has been successfully conducted. Additionally, a 400 kV substation is under construction at Bahrabise.
Under the leadership of Chilime Hydropower Company, a subsidiary of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the power from the 120 MW Mid-Bhotekosi hydropower project in Sindhupalchok will be connected to this substation. NEA plans to charge the Bahrabise substation with electricity from the Mid-Bhotekosi project once production begins. The project is currently repairing a tunnel after detecting water leakage, with completion targeted for the second week of August.
During an inspection, NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising stated that the construction of the Barabise substation ensures seamless connectivity of the Mid-Bhotekosi project's electricity to the national grid. The power will be transmitted via a 220 kV line, with towers already erected for the approximately four-kilometer single circuit line from the powerhouse switchyard to the substation. However, local protests in Ward Nos 3 and 4 of Barabise municipality have hindered the installation of cables on the remaining two kilometers of the line.
