Banking Associations Urge Fair Investigation Into NIMB Bank CEO Detention
Four major banking and financial sector associations have expressed concern over the detention of Nepal Investment Mega Bank Chief Executive Officer Jyoti Prakash Pandey by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.
In a joint press statement issued on Wednesday, the Nepal Banker's Association (NBA), Development Bankers Association Nepal (DBAN), Nepal Financial Institutions Association and Nepal Microfinance Bankers Association stated that banks and financial institutions operate under the Bank and Financial Institutions Act, 2073, and directives issued by Nepal Rastra Bank.
The associations clarified that loan recovery and management fall within the legal and regulatory framework of banking institutions and are primarily part of internal banking procedures and the responsibilities of the chief executive officer. They warned that actions against top banking officials in connection with loan recovery could negatively impact public confidence in banks and the overall stability and credibility of the financial sector.
