Banke businessmen refuse to accept Nepali currency
BANKE, June 25:
Nepalis in Matehiya — a village 30-km away from Banke district headquarters — in Banke district are forced to use Indian Currency after the local shops refused to take Nepali currency saying they need to exchange it to purchase goods from the Indian markets.
The locals in Mateniya, Laxmanpur, Kalaphanta, Narainapur and other villages are forced to depend on Indian markets due to lack of easy excess to Nepali markets inside the border.
Vice-chairman of Social Development Forum Chandra Bahadur Thapa — who was in the village with his programme — complained that he was forced to stay hungry when the local businessmen refused to take Nepali currency saying they have to buy goods from Indian market and the Indian businessmen do not accept Nepali currency.
“The businessmen refused to take Nepali currency around Bagauda area across Rapti river,” Thapa said, adding that they were forced to stay hungry due to currency problem.
The central bank and government both has been unable to check the usage of Indian currency in Nepal, which has been used as a transit route for fake insian currency hurting Indian economy too.
