Balen Shah Pressures PM Karki to Arrest Oli and Lekhak; UML Counters with Complaint Against Shah and Gurung

Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has reportedly urged interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki to issue arrest warrants against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the September 8–9 Gen Z protest incidents.
Sources said Shah met PM Karki in Baluwatar, after which she held a late-night meeting with security chiefs. Officials advised her to wait for the findings of the judicial commission led by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki. Following this, the police forwarded the complaint to the commission instead of registering it directly.
Meanwhile, activist Sudan Gurung allegedly threatened ministers, intensifying pressure on the government. The probe commission later clarified that law enforcement agencies do not need to wait for its final report to act against those involved in criminal offenses.
In response, UML’s student wing ANNFSU filed a counter-complaint against Mayor Shah and Gurung, accusing them of arson, vandalism, and violence during the protests. Police have forwarded both complaints to the commission for further action.
