Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal, in collaboration with the Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) and WaterAid Nepal (WAN), has officially presented the newly installed groundwater recharge system at Balaju Park in Ward Number 16 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). The Deputy Mayor of KMC, Ms. Sunita Dangol, received the handover on January 19, 2024. This collaborative project, initiated in October 2023, successfully concluded on the aforementioned date.

The groundwater recharge system in Balaju Park, Kathmandu, includes 21 filter chambers, 21 recharge wells, two distilling chambers, 75-foot recharge trenches, and seven bamboo check dams. Part of the project, 'Enhancing Groundwater Recharge in Balaju Park Area within Kathmandu Metropolitan City: Meeting the Growing Urban Water Demand,' was spearheaded by CIUD, supported financially by Bottlers Nepal Terai Limited (BNTL), and technically assisted by WAN. Projections indicate an annual recharge of 30,000 kiloliters of water, contributing to the enhancement of the water table in the designated area's shallow groundwater.
