The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has finally regained leadership after remaining without a chairman for nearly one and a half months. The vacancy arose following the resignation of the previous chairperson on Baishakh 15, leaving the country’s only stock exchange under interim uncertainty.
In a recent decision, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle assigned the responsibility of NEPSE’s leadership to senior government official Amrit Lamsal, an undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance.
Nepal Stock Exchange is the central institution responsible for facilitating securities trading and ensuring the smooth operation of Nepal’s capital market. The appointment is expected to restore stability in its governance structure and strengthen coordination between regulatory bodies and market operations.
Lamsal, who currently serves as a division head at the Ministry of Finance, also holds significant responsibilities in key financial institutions including Nepal Reinsurance Company and Nepal Bank Limited. His multi-sector experience is expected to contribute to improved institutional oversight and policy alignment within NEPSE.
With the leadership vacuum now filled, expectations are high that NEPSE will move forward with renewed direction, enhanced coordination, and stronger governance support from the government.
