Alleged loan shark Singh paraded at MPR

KATHMANDU:

Police on Sunday paraded alleged loan shark Mahesh Bahadur Singh, who was arrested two days ago on charge of intimidating people and extorting them, at the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu.

Earlier, police had presented Singh before the Kathmandu District Court today. He has been remanded in custody for investigation.

The MPR organised a press conference and made public various materials including ammunition and bank cheques seized from his possession.

Singh, who is accused of forcefully making his victims sign fake documents and lending money at an excessive interest rates, was arrested from Kalanki on Friday afternoon.

Following his arrest, police had raided his Lalitpur-based house and confiscated seven cartridges, 136 bullets and four magazines, and as many as 75 cheques of different bank accounts amounting to Rs 352.96 million.

Also, 11 signed blank cheques of the accounts of various housing companies were also found.

Police had seized seven horns of various wild animals also from his house.

A Kia car (Ba 4 Cha 4530), used by Singh, was also impounded.
