Action plan for consolidation of cooperatives readied

KATHMANDU, MAY 10:

The Department of Cooperatives has prepared an action plan for the reformation, consolidation, and good governance in the cooperatives sectors.

Around five million people have been involved in around 26,000 cooperative organizations in the country.

During the press conference organised by the Department, Registrar of the Department, Kedar Neupane, made the draft of the action plan public and claimed that the action plan stressed the need of extension of the cooperatives offices and their capacity enhancement.

The Cooperatives Department has a network in as many as 38 districts currently and that it has a target of extending its offices in more than 20 districts in the days ahead.

The Department has planned of running cooperatives campaign, professional development, and promotion of the overall cooperative sector and that it would attract the people under poverty line towards this sector, and bring mobile cooperatives services.

The action plan encourages investing in the agricultural, tourism and water resources, among other sectors of priority.

Similarly, the government plans to alleviate poverty through the cooperatives, and is looking for foreign investors to invest in the cooperatives sector, among others.

During the press conference, Registrar Neupane said the action plan was brought to clear the public understanding regarding the cooperative sector and urged all to implement it.
