Acharya appointed EPF administrator

The government on Sunday appointed Krishna Prasad Acharya as the administrator of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
He was selected from among three candidates, including Radha Krishna Pote and Sushil Kumar Aryal, recommended by the Chief Executive Appointment Recommendation Committee.
A Cabinet meeting on Monday decided in favour of Acharya who is currently the EPF’s deputy chief officer. While Pote is the fund’s acting chief, Aryal is the manager at the Citizen Investment Trust.
The Public Enterprises Board, which has been assigned to assess the quality of candidates applying for the top posts at PEs, had published a vacancy notice for the post of administrator at EPF three months ago.
This is the first appointment of a chief executive at a public enterprise after the formation of PEB about a year ago. Although efforts to appoint chief executives at PEs had been made since April, it took quite a long time for the first appointment to come due to several hurdles in the process.
The Supreme Court stayed the process of selecting chief executives for the Nepal Electricity Authority and Nepal Oil Corporation after the acting chiefs of both the PEs filed case against the selection process. In the case of Nepal Airlines Corporation, the presence of an executive chairman created confusion about the appointment of a managing director.
The implementation of the election code of conduct by the Election Commission (EC) two months ago also delayed the selection process, with the constitutional body putting ban on new appointments in PEs. After it became clear that the election will not be held on the scheduled date of November 22, EC last month lifted the ban and the appointment process resumed.
Meanwhile, eight candidates have applied for the chief executive post at the Hydroelectric Investment and Development Company. PEB has also called applications for the general manager at Nepal Television, managing director at Janak Education Material Centre and administrator at Rastriya Beema Sansthan.
