73 MW Middle Tamor Hydropower Project Successfully Integrates Electricity into Koshi Corridor Transmission Line

The 73 MW Middle Tamor hydropower project has successfully linked its generated electricity to the Koshi Corridor transmission line, marking a milestone achievement for the nation's power sector. With the presence of Nepal Electricity Authority's Managing Director, Kulman Ghising, overseeing the operation. Operated by Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Limited, the project is poised to undergo a comprehensive 15-day trial production period before transitioning into full-scale commercial operations, ensuring the seamless and reliable delivery of electricity to consumers.
The connection of one of the project's turbines to the Koshi Corridor transmission line at Basantpur in Tehrathum underscores the collaborative efforts between public and private entities in advancing Nepal's energy infrastructure. Managing Director Ghising emphasized the significance of this achievement, noting that Nepal's installed electricity capacity has now surged to 3,300 megawatts, thereby alleviating longstanding challenges in meeting the nation's power demands. Highlighting the pivotal role of hydropower in driving Nepal's economic growth, Ghising called for continued cooperation from all stakeholders to support the ongoing development of power projects across the country, ensuring sustained progress and prosperity.
Amidst the achievement, plans are in place to manage power production during the dry season, with anticipated output ranging between 25 to 30 MW. The construction of a 50-meter-long dam with an 11-meter height near Mitlung in Furumbu of Fungling municipality has facilitated the generation of electricity, with water directed through a 3,400-meter tunnel to the powerhouse located at Thumbabensi of Khokling.
