In the past five months, Nepal has issued work permits to 414 foreign nationals, according to data from the Department of Labor and Occupational Safety. The period from July to November saw 414 non-Nepali citizens obtaining work permits, while nearly 300,000 Nepali citizens went abroad in search of employment during the same timeframe. The department also reported the renewal of work permits for 545 non-Nepalese citizens.
In November alone, 110 non-Nepali citizens were granted work permits, with 159 renewals for existing permits. The department conducted 12 follow-ups to ensure foreign workers in establishments possessed valid work permits.
During this period, an additional trade union federation was registered, bringing the total to two new registrations. Seven trade unions renewed their registration. The department also recorded two industrial accidents, along with 387 individual complaints and 73 collective complaints from workers. Additionally, 236 labor suppliers had their licenses renewed, and 186 labor disputes were successfully resolved.
The data underscores ongoing efforts by the Nepali government to manage foreign labor integration and ensure occupational safety and workers' rights.
