38% shares remain to dematerialized; Shareholders not getting dividends yet

38% shares bought from the primary market have not yet been dematerialized. As per the information provided by the CDSC, about 62% shares have been dematerialized till date.

Currently, 6,56,10,50,179 unit shares of 195 companies have been listed in CDSC. Out of the listed shares, 4,03,74,06,120 units are already dematerialized while 2,52,36,44,059 units still remains to get dematerialized. The dividend distribution of the companies which have not yet been dematerialized has also been stopped due to the same reason.

SEBON has issued a direction to deposit the cash dividends in the respective bank accounts and bonus shares in the demat accounts of the shareholders. So, for those shareholders not getting their shares dematerialized have not been able to receive dividends as well.

The main reason for the shares not getting dematerialized have been said to be the number of people not indulging in the transaction in secondary market. Currently, 14.26 lakhs Demat accounts are in operation.
