2nd Nepal International Trade Fair in March 2013

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI) is scheduled to hold the second edition of Nepal International Trade Fair 2013 at Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu from March 8 to 12.
According to the FNCCI, the trade fair is being organised to promote the local products, including the 19 products enlisted under the Nepal Trade Integration Strategy (NTIS), and as a promotion tool for marketing Nepal Investment Year 2012-13. The fair, the federeation claimed, would be a “showcase’ of the entire country rather than just a place for trading goods and services.
The apex business body believes the fair would help promote local skills, goods and entrepreneurship in the international arena and encourage for technology transfer among the participating countries.
FNCCI Vice-president Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar said that at a time when the country is all set to mark Investment Year, the trade fair would have a special significance. “The fair would provide an international promotion tool to make the Investment Year a big success,” he said.
Expressing dissatisfaction at government’s indecision over providing land to construct exhibition centre of the international standard and a handicraft village, Rajkarnikar announced that the FNCCI was ready to invest Rs 1 billion for the purpose. According to him, the proposed facility will be equipped with a commercial parking area, an international level seminar hall and hotel, among others. The federation has also planned to invest Rs 440 million to construct handicraft village.
“We can execute both of these projects only when the government provides us land,” he added, “Though the FNCCI has formally submitted a detailed proposal to Prime Minister’s Office in this regard, we have not received any response so far.”
The federation has planned to showcase micro-hydro projects, handicraft, handmade carpet, information technology, cottage and micro enterprises, green energy and urban development at separate pavilions during the fair.
Kalyan Krishna Tamrakar, the co-coordinator of the fair, said that 40 stalls from the Indian state of Assam, 20 stalls each from Pakistan and Bangladesh have already confirmed their participation for the event. More than 200,000 people are expected to visit the fair that will have 350 stalls.
