27 fuel tankers under CIAA control

BARA, June 15:

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken 27 fuel tankers under control for investigation on suspicion of theft of petrole-um products from the tankers.

The tankers had left from the Raxaul depot of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to the Amlekhgunj depot of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

Bhanubhakta Khanal, chief of NOC´s Amlekhgunj depot, confirmed that 27 loaded tankers have been taken under control by the constitutional anti-graft body for investigation.

Police had arrested Rafik Ansari of Rampur Tokani-9 of Bara, tanker driver Sambhu Thakuri and assistant Sajan Thakuri of Hetauda-5 on Tuesday night while they were stealing fuel from the tanker with registration number Na 2 Kha 4549.

A joint team of Armed Police Force´s Regional Office in Pathlaiya and Nepal Police´s Central Regional Office in Hetauda had seized 150 liters of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), 20 liters of diesel and 10 liters of kerosene from them.

Police Inspector Kumar Bikram Thapa said the three suspects have been kept at Area Police Office, Simara, for further questioning.

According to NOC´s Amlekhgunj depot, IOC´s Raxaul depot supplies around 2.4 million liters of petroleum products to Nepal on 70 tankers on a daily basis. Tankers carry a consignment of 24,000 liters or 20,000 liters or 12,000 at a time.

When the tankers reach the Amlekhgunj depot, the consignment is lower by around 900 liters.

Petroleum products stored in Amlekhgunj depot are distributed to Dhading, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Pokhara and other 19 districts.
