20% more youths left for foreign job last year
KATHMANDU:
The number of Nepali youth going abroad in search of green pastures increased by a whopping 20 per cent last year compared with the previous years, according to the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management.
The number of Nepali nationals leaving for the gulf and other countries for foreign employment reached 354,716 in the Fiscal Year 2010/2011 against 294,094 Nepali nationals in the previous fiscal year.
The government has opened 108 countries around the globe for the Nepalis willing to go for employment.
Spokesperson of the Ministry, Purna Chandra Bhattarai, said the number of women going abroad for employment in the last FY doubled to 10,416 compared with 5,260 in the previous fiscal year.
Similarly, during the last fiscal year, 119 manpower agencies were registered and registration of 20 such companies was scrapped in the same period, according to the Ministry.
At present, 756 foreign employment agencies are in operation in the country.
