2 suspects held over Rathi kidnap case

BIRATNAGAR, JAN 29 -

Indian police have arrested two individuals on suspicion of their alleged involvement in abduction of Nepali industrialist Ganga Bisan Rathi, who has remained out of contact for the last 18 days. Karna Lal Agrawal, a senior police officer for Darjeeling, said that Surendra Kumar Mishra of Uttar Pradesh and Abhijeet Basu of Siliguri Pradhan Nagar were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping Rathi. They have been brought to Siliguri for further investigation.  Police suspect kidnappers may have kept Rathi in hideouts around Birbhum areas of West Bengal. “We are getting close to solving the case,” said Agrawal. Rathi had set out for Siliguri, India on a business trip via Kakarbhitta 18 days ago. Morang police have been working with Indian police in Darjeeling on the case.  Suspecting Rathi’s abduction by professional kidnappers, a team of Morang Police led by DSP Uma Prasad Chaturbedi had earlier visited Darjeeling.
