KATHMANDU, DEC 02 -
A total of 14 individuals have applied for the post of chief executive of Agriculture Development Bank Limited ( ADBL ).
A majority of applicants are incumbent staffers of the bank, including all deputy general managers and the officiating CEO.
The ADBL had published a vacancy notice two weeks ago and the deadline closed on Monday.
According to Pratap Subedi, chief at ADBL ’s company secretariat, officiating CEO Anil Kumar Upadhyay, DGMs Bijaya Swar and Bhabindra Khatri, and chief director at the bank’s Katmandu regional office Dasharath Joshi are among the applicants.
Other applicants are Lila Prakash Sitaula, former director of Nepal Rastra Bank; Ghaman Singh Khadka, former departmental chief of ADBL ; Bhaskar Rimal, senior official of Manakamana Development Bank; Upendra Karki, former deputy general manager of ADBL ; Chhapi Raj Pant, chief risk officer of Nepal SBI Bank; Tej Man Singh Karki, former departmental chief of ADBL ; and Shankar Man Singh, former executive director of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
Shiva Ram Prasad Koirala, department chief at ADBL ’s treasury department; Shiva Adhikari, former ADBL official; and Ram Dev Yadav, former managing director of Madyamanchal Grameen Bikas Bank; have also applied for the post. The top ADBL post has remained vacant ever since the board removed Tej Bahadur Budhathoki from the post one and half months ago, citing underperformance. He was appointed for a four-year term through an open competition on November 27, 2011.
How tough is running ADBL can be gauged by the fact that two of the former chiefs had to leave before their terms expired, particularly due non-cooperation from heavily politicised employee unions.
The board had removed Budhathoki following agitation by Nepal Congress-aligned union. The Maoist-led government had appointed Budhathoki to the post. Former CEO Shyam Singh Pandey had also resigned prematurely due to non-cooperation from the unions.
