Ten Climbers, Including Five Nepalis, Feared Missing After Avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak

The world renowned climber Nirmal Purja led international expedition team of 10 mountaineers is feared missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak in Pakistan. The Alpine Club of Pakistan received reports on Thursday that an avalanche had struck the team led by Purja, 43, and there has been no communication from the climbers since, the Associated Press (AP) reported quoting club vice-president, Karrar Haidri.

According to the AP, the team consists of five Nepalis, a Pakistani, an Omani, an American, a Chinese and next one whose nationality is not confirmed. Meanwhile, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ganesh Paudel has expressed a deep concern to the reports of an avalanche and the loss of contact with Nirmal Purja 'Nims Dai' and fellow Nepali climbers in Pakistan.

Taking to his social site, Minister Paudel stated, "We are in regular contact with the Pakistani authorities and receiving updates on the situation". The Minister has expressed hope for the safe return of all Nepali climbers missing in the avalanche.
