Rastriya Banijya Bank Marks 61st Anniversary, Emphasizes Digital Banking and Credit Reform
Rastriya Banijya Bank Limited celebrated its 61st anniversary at a special ceremony held under the chief guestship of Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal. Addressing the event, the finance minister stressed the need for banks to expand credit by understanding borrower psychology, strengthening borrower profiling, promoting digital transactions over cash, and moving from collateral-based lending to credit score–based financing to boost entrepreneurship and income generation.
On the occasion, Minister Khanal unveiled the bank’s special anniversary publication Smarika Uphaar 2082, digitally inaugurated 12 newly opened branch offices, and launched a new product, the RBB Phone Loan. Employees who completed 20 years of service were also honored with long-service medals.
The bank’s Chairman, Dev Kumar Dhakal, said Rastriya Banijya Bank is expanding banking services in line with the government’s economic prosperity goals, with priority given to lending in productive sectors. Chief Executive Officer Devendra Raman Khanal highlighted the bank’s current performance and plans, reaffirming its commitment to youth-focused, technology-driven, and people-centric banking. He noted that the bank has been recognized by Nepal Clearing House Limited for the highest QR merchant transactions and the largest digital government transactions in fiscal year 2080/81.
The ceremony was attended by board members, senior management, employee union representatives, staff, and other distinguished guests. As part of its anniversary celebrations, the bank also organized blood donation programs, health camps, sports events, and financial literacy programs across all 77 districts. Established in 1966 as a fully government-owned bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank now operates 313 branches nationwide, serving over 4.7 million customers with a strong focus on digital banking services.
