Prime Minister Sushila Karki has broadened her interim cabinet by inducting four ministers from diverse professional backgrounds, with the aim of enhancing governance and advancing election preparations. The oath of office was administered by President Ram Chandra Paudel at Sital Niwas in the presence of senior officials, including Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, and National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal.

The new lineup includes innovator Mahabir Pun as Minister for Education, Science and Technology; climate and agriculture expert Madan Prasad Pariyar as Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development; journalist Jagdish Kharel as Minister for Communication and Information Technology; and former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, who will oversee three ministries—Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation; and Industry, Commerce and Supplies. Shortly after their appointments, the ministers announced their priorities, ranging from innovation and digital access to fertilizer management, use of local products, and support for families affected by the recent Gen Z protests.

These appointments follow earlier inclusions of Rameshwor Prasad Khanal as Finance Minister, Kulman Ghising as Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation as well as Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Om Prakash Aryal as Home Minister. Meanwhile, the nomination of Dr. Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra as Health Minister has been put on hold due to an ongoing corruption probe. Appointed on September 12 as Nepal’s first female premier, Karki now leads an interim government tasked with restoring stability and conducting parliamentary elections by March 5, 2026.
