Preparations have entered the final stage to launch a special train service linking Janakpurdham in Nepal with the sacred city of Ayodhya in India under the Ramayana Circuit. Paribesh Parajuli, General Manager of Nepal Railway Company, confirmed that both nations prime minister Balen Shah and Narendra Modi are aiming to jointly inaugurate the direct service during Prime Minister Balen Shah's upcoming official visit to India. Bilateral discussions involving railway, customs, and security officials from both sides are actively underway to finalize operational details, with cross border field inspections already conducted along the Jayanagar Janakpurdham Kurtha rail section.

To ensure seamless operations, Nepal and India have reached a consensus on security protocols, assigning their respective national security agencies to safeguard passengers and rail infrastructure within their borders. Cross border logistics, track maintenance, and customs clearance procedures are also being synchronized to avoid transit delays. Currently, Nepal’s active passenger rail line operates locally from Jayanagar in India, through Janakpurdham, to Bijalpura in Mahottari district.

The upcoming direct connection between Janakpurdham the birthplace of Goddess Sita and Ayodhya the birthplace of Lord Ram is expected to significantly boost religious tourism, heritage travel, and economic integration across the border. Local business leaders note that the seamless transport link will ease transit for thousands of pilgrims while stimulating trade and regional development in the Madhesh province.

Prime Minister Balen Shah is set to travel India on 6 Mangsir, 2083.
