KATHMANDU:

Any individual or organisation within and outside the country wishing to contribute to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund can do so through online banking system. For any such contributions, one can select an option of one’s choice by going through the website of the fund — pmrelief.opmcm.gov.np.

Arrangement has also been made to integrate the fund deposited in the relief funds set up in the name of various individuals and institutions since the devastating earthquake on April 25, and mobilise them in the rescue and relief works.

Nepal Rastra Bank had, as per the directive of the government, set a provision on April 29, whereby any contribution deposited in the name of relief fund would directly go to the PM Disaster Relief Fund. This provision has been made with the purpose of minimising the administrative and overhead expenses of the newly opened organisations, according to the fund.

The Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund is purely a relief fund established for the search, rescue and relief of those who are caught in any natural disaster.

The fund is operated by an eight-member board of directors formed under the convenorship of the vice-chair of the National Planning Commission at the central level. Based on unanimous decision of the board, necessary relief funds are transferred to the District Natural Disaster Relief Fund convened by the chief district officer of the district concerned.

The fund was established as per the PM Natural Disaster Relief Fund Operation Guidelines, 2063 BS in order to integrate the contributions received from all sources and deliver it to the genuine disaster survivor by doing away with duplication.
