Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), on Wednesday, directed Nepal Telecom and Ncell to come up with SMS campaign that would allow mobile users to donate fund directly to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. To this effect, the telecom regulator has assigned short code 1550, 15025 and 15100 to the two telecom companies. “The short code allows mobile users to directly contribute the desired amount from their balance to the relief fund via SMS,” said Achyuta Nanda Mishra, assistant spokesperson for NTA. He also said that the authority decided to contribute Rs 50 million to the relief fund. Likewise, 20 days’ salary of NTA chairman, 15 days’ salary of officer-level staff and 10 days’ salary of other staff members of NTA would be contributed to the relief fund.
