The Government of Nepal has declared public holidays for today and tomorrow (6th and 7th Falgun) on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar and Prajatantra Diwas.
Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) will remain closed in observance of these occasions. Regular trading will resume from Sunday (Falgun 10, 2082) at 11:00 AM.
Gyalpo Lhosar is the annual New Year festival celebrated by the Sherpa community, coinciding with the Tibetan New Year. It is observed from the second day of the waxing moon in the month of Falgun until the full moon and follows a 12-year cycle, each year symbolized by an animal sign. Traditional rituals include visiting local springs, expressing gratitude, making offerings to Nagas (serpent deities) and water spirits, and performing smoke offerings to honor elements of the natural world.
Prajatantra Diwas, or Democracy Day, is a historic national observance marking the establishment of democracy in Nepal and the end of the autocratic Rana regime in 1951. Celebrated annually on Falgun 07, the day commemorates the triumph of democratic ideals, with various ceremonies and events reflecting the nation’s democratic journey and values.
