Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) took a hammering today as the benchmark index came down by a hefty 12.55 points to close at 508.36 points. Following the prior trading day’s decline of more than 7 points, the local bourse from the opening of the session traded in the bearish zone and continued to do so till the end of the trade. All the sub-indices also followed the similar outcome as none of the sectoral indices landed in the green pasture.
Banking and Hydro started this week’s trade with a huge loss as both had a drop of double digits in their respective levels. Hydro sector plunge by 22.8 points as the fall in Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) by Rs 16 and 27 mainly caused the sector to drop. Similarly, the descend in all the stocks traded under the Banking today, effected the sector’s level by 18.33 points. The scirps of Standard Chartered Bank Ltd. (SCB), Nabil Bank Ltd. (NABIL), Nepal SBI Bank Limited (SBI), Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIB), Bank of Kathmandu (BOK) and Nepal Bank Limited (NBL) had loss of more than Rs 20 today i.e. Rs 86, Rs 70, Rs 42, Rs 40, Rs 36, Rs 30 and Rs 23 respectively.
Likewise, Development and Finance plummeted by 2.61 and 0.6 points respectively. Whereas, the decrease in the price of Oriental Hotel Ltd. (OHL) and Soaltee Hotel Ltd. (SHL) by Rs 1 and Rs 4 respectively resulted in the decline of Hotels sector by 6.88 points. Also, the plummet in the level of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) by Rs 5 pulled the Others sector down by 4.69 points. As for Insurance, it reduced by 0.31 points; while, Manufacturing sector dropped by 3.62 points.
Overall there were 71 scrips traded among which 8 scrip increased, 5 remain intact and 58 scrip decreased. The highest gainer of the day was Kamana Bikash Bank Ltd., closed at Rs 123, with Rs 8 or 5.22%. Whereas, Infrastructure Development Bank Ltd.(IDBL),closed at Rs 68, was the highest loser with Rs 6 or 8.11%. Among the shares trading over par value, Swabalamwan Bikash Bank (SWBBL), closed at Rs 311, was the highest loser with Rs 21 or 6.33%.
In case of highest share traded, Janata Bank Nepal Ltd. (JBNL), closed at Rs 162, topped with 16,200 units. In terms of highest turnover, Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), closed at Rs 1330, topped with 6,191 units worth Rs 8,230,532 via 49 transactions; in which Broker No 35 (Kohinoor Investment and Securities Pvt.Ltd) was the most active broker with 26.21% stand alone dealing of EBL, tallying 1,623 units worth Rs 2,157,439 via 6 transactions which includes 5 matching transaction totalling 1,573 units worth Rs 2,090,689.
Altogether today 137,176 shares were traded via 854 transactions worth Rs 55,911,218 and the market capitalization at the end of the day stood at 512,305.12 Millions.
