Nepali migrant workers & NRNs can invest in 9% foreign employment bond from today

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is issuing “Foreign Employment Saving Bond 2077” worth Rs 250 million from Ashad 6  (today) to Ashad 19, 2072 ( June 21st  till July  4th, 2015). The five-year foreign employment bond is targeted at Nepali migrant workers and non-resident Nepalese (NRNs) across the globe. The Nepalese citizens who were involved in foreign employment four months ago can also apply for this bond.  

The bond is being offered at nine percent coupon rate. The payout out of interest amount will be done in every six months.

Interested Parties can file for bonds worth minimum Rs 5,000 and maximum bonds worth an amount not exceeding the size of total issue and divisible by 5,000 without remainder.

The bond can be kept as collateral for loans in banks and other financial institutions.

The pay out of principal amount under the bond will start from Ashad 24, 2077.

Nara Bahadur Thapa, executive director of Public Debt Management Department at NRB said, “Foreign employment bond is an instrument to attract and channelize the foreign exchange. It will help to make productive use of the income earned abroad and also give them sense of contribution towards nation building”.

Government started issuing the foreign employment bond since 2067.
