Nembang asks FNCCI to press for winter session
KATHMANDU, APR 12
Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang on Saturday urged the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry ( FNCCI ) to pressure the government to call the winter session of Parliament soon. With the government planning to present budget in May, the winter session has not yet been called in and there are concerns that the bill session of Parliament may not be called at all.
Addressing the inaugural session of 49th annual general meeting of FNCCI , the CA chairman said that the calling of a parliamentary session is important for the country’s business community to lobby on the issues to be incorporated in the budget.
“The pre-budget session cannot be held without holding bill session in Parliament. Since the business community has a lot to do with the timely announcement of budget, the FNCCI should initiate discussions with the government and the political parties for its timely formulation,” Nembang said, also urging the apex business body to hold its future course of action wisely. “The FNCCI is stepping into the 50th year. Each and every member of the institution should unite together and transform obstacles into opportunities,” Nembang said, referring to the ongoing ruckus in the federation.
Pashupati Murarka, officiating FNCCI president, also stressed the need for the private sector to unify the federation that has been fractured since its last election for leadership. “The FNCCI is at a difficult position. Our president could not be here today following the court verdict ordering him to serve the remaining prison time over a Panchayat-era corruption case. It is our duty to respect the law of the country and the decision of court,” said Murarka, adding that there is no alternative to unity. He added that the FNCCI members should stand above their personal gains for a dynamic leadership in the days to come.
