KATHMANDU, Feb 26:

Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is resuming its flight to New Delhi with its new Airbus A320-200 aircraft from Friday.

“We received permission to operate flight to the Indian capital with our new aircraft from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India, on Wednesday evening. Now, we will start scheduled flights from Friday," NAC Spokesperson Ram Hari Sharma said.

NAC´s plan of resuming New Delhi flights from Wednesday had not materialized after the national flag carrier failed to secure permit from DGCA, India in time. NAC had halted flights to New Delhi three years ago.

The national flag carrier will operate four flights a week -- on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays -- to New Delhi. The airbus will fly to New Delhi at 8 am and return at 10:40 am.

"We will operate daily flights to New Delhi once the second Airbus A320-200 aircraft joins our fleet," Sharma added.

The second airbus is expected to arrive in April.

NAC has fixed promotional fare to New Delhi at Rs 7,084 (including taxes) for one-way flight and Rs 15,177 (including taxes) for round-trip flight. Foreign passengers will need to pay an additional Rs 1,130 as tourism service fee.

According to Sharma, the Airbus will carry 100 passengers to New Delhi and fly back to Kathmandu with 42 passengers.

The first of two Airbus A320-200 aircraft, ordered by NAC, landed in Kathmandu on February 8. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has given 9N-AKW call-sign to the aircraft. The aircraft dubbed ´Sagarmatha´ had received Air Operator´s Certificate (AOC) on Tuesday afternoon.

Currently, NAC is flying to Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Hong Kong with its ageing Boeing 757 aircraft. It plans to operate flights to Hong Kong and Bangkok once the new aircraft arrives.

NAC operates a fleet of two ageing Boeing 757, one Airbus A320-200 two Twin Otters, one MA 60 and one Harbin Y12E.
