The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a set of five-point instructions aimed at curbing the illegal import of chicken from India. This directive comes in the wake of discussions held with representatives from Sarobarwala, as per a meeting that took place in the ministry on Bhadra 3.

During the Sunday discussion, businessmen voiced their concerns to Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha regarding the surge in illegal chicken and poultry product imports, taking advantage of the open border crossing with India.

To address these concerns, the ministry has directed the Nepal Police, Armed Police, and all district administration offices to take action to halt the illicit import of chickens and poultry products.

The key points of the instructions are as follows:

Control and Regulation: The Ministry will take measures to control poultry and poultry products that are being illegally transported through open border crossings. This includes prosecuting individuals involved in illegal transportation and vehicles used, in accordance with existing laws.

Enhanced Border Surveillance: To deter illegal imports, the ministry will intensify patrol and surveillance activities at border crossings.

Removal of Illegal Facilities: The Ministry of Home Affairs has communicated with subordinate agencies to initiate the removal of illegal and non-compliant chicken farms, slaughterhouses, hatcheries, and cold storage facilities located in border areas.

Customs and Quarantine Support: The ministry is committed to providing necessary coordination and support to enhance the effectiveness of customs and quarantine measures.

These instructions are part of the government's efforts to regulate the poultry industry and ensure that imports are in compliance with existing laws and regulations. The Ministry of Home Affairs aims to safeguard the interests of local poultry producers and maintain the quality and safety of poultry products in Nepal.
