How 372 Volunteers Helped Myagdi Achieve 100% Child Immunization
Myagdi District has been officially declared a fully immunized district after successfully providing all routine vaccines to every child under the age of five. The milestone announcement was made on Tuesday during a special program, following a thorough verification process across the district's six local levels and 45 wards.
Local health officials confirmed that the campaign successfully reached 1,080 infants up to 15 months old for their routine shots, while 3,974 children between the ages of one and five completed their full vaccination schedules. The routine immunization program protects children against 13 preventable diseases, including tuberculosis (BCG), diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus (DPT), polio, measles, rubella, and Japanese encephalitis.
The success of the campaign relied heavily on grassroots healthcare workers. A total of 372 female community health volunteers were deployed across the district, working alongside medical staff to conduct door-to-door visits. These teams verified each child's vaccination status before authorities officially declared the district fully immunized.
With this achievement, Myagdi becomes the fourth district in Gandaki Province to secure a vaccine-sustained status this year, according to Dil Kumari Khatri, head of the District Vaccine Coordination Committee.
Speaking at the event, Gandaki Province Health Minister Laxman Pandey highlighted that consistent immunization programs are vital for reducing infant mortality and shielding children from dangerous diseases. Minister Pandey also promised that the provincial government would prioritize adding more healthcare staff and upgrading medical equipment at Beni Hospital to further improve local healthcare services.
