A new Artificial Groundwater Recharge Project was officially launched at Civil Service Hospital through a joint initiative of Bottlers Nepal Limited and the Centre for Integrated Urban Development to help tackle Kathmandu’s growing water challenges.

The project aims to capture rainwater and stormwater runoff to replenish underground aquifers, with an estimated annual recharge capacity of 6.25 million liters of groundwater, while also reducing localized urban flooding.

Speaking at the ceremony, Achyut Raj Regmi, Under Secretary of Civil Service Hospital, welcomed the initiative, stating that it will directly benefit surrounding communities and strengthen sustainable water management efforts.

The project builds on the long-term partnership between Bottlers Nepal, Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal and CIUD, which have previously implemented similar groundwater recharge initiatives in several parts of Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

Officials say the project can serve as a model for hospitals, schools, government offices, and other public institutions, promoting long-term groundwater conservation and climate-resilient urban development across the Kathmandu Valley.
