Global Math Debate League Concludes National Round, Redefining Math Education in Nepal
Nepal’s academic competition landscape reached a major milestone as the Global Math Debate League concluded its National Round at The Plaza, Lalitpur. After conducting regional rounds across Jhapa, Biratnagar, Chitwan, Lumbini, Pokhara, and Kathmandu, the league has emerged as Nepal’s first structured platform focused on debating mathematics rather than simply solving problems.
Led by education organization Embark UnMath, the initiative aims to transform how mathematics is taught and understood in schools. Instead of emphasizing speed and memorization, the competition encourages students to justify assumptions, defend arguments, and engage in critical reasoning, mirroring academic peer review rather than traditional exams.

The National Round brought together top teams from across the country, with 13 teams in the Alpha Category and 14 in the Beta Category competing in the championship stage. Judges evaluated participants based on reasoning depth, clarity, adaptability, and teamwork.
By prioritizing logical justification over final answers, the league addresses gaps in Nepal’s education system and promotes deeper conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving skills among students.
