DHANGADHI, March 3:

Irregular power supply in Dhangadhi has affected locals as well as industries operating in the area.

Local industries have remained closed for the past three days.

Officials of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) say power supply was affected because of the problem in a transformer. NEA had been supplying electricity imported from Tanakpur, India, in Dhangadhi.

Bijaya Khadka, division chief of Attariya grid of NEA, said they have been facing problem in power supply since 4 pm on Friday.

As a result, the area has been facing power cut for 12 to 14 hours.

“Industries have shut operation for the past three days as power supply goes off without prior notice,” Hari Shankar Thakur, proprietor of Thakur Agro Industries, said.

Similarly, Sarada Joshi, a local resident, said irregular power supply has affected supply of drinking water. “Children are also finding it difficult to study,” she added.

Dinesh Bhandari, former president of Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said local industries are facing huge loss as they are not being able to run their plants due to erratic power supply. “It is impossible to run big plants by using generators round the clock. Use of generator increases cost of production significantly,” added Bhandari.

After supply from Tanakpur got disrupted, NEA has been supplying electricity to Dhangadhi from a substation in Lamahi“

“We have not been able to repair the transformer due to heavy rainfall. Power supply will become regular once the transformer is repaired,” added Khadka.
