Earthquake: Death toll hits 4,355
KATHMANDU, April 28: A total of 4,355 people were killed and 8,065 injured so far in the massive earthquake occurred on Saturday, according to the Nepal Police.
A total of 1,039 people lost their lives in Kathmandu while 243 in Bhaktapur and 159 in Lalitpur.
Similarly, 2,142 people were injured in Kathmandu and 1,886 and 885 in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts respectively.
Likewise, 50 people were killed in the eastern region, 2,595 in the central region, 264 in the western region and two in the mid-western region.
Police said that 112 were injured in the eastern region while 2,698 in the central region, 322 in the western region and 20 in the mid-western region.
3,982 bodies handed over to families
A total of 907 bodies were handed over to their families in Kathmandu. Similarly, 243 bodies in Bhaktapur, 156 in Lalitpur, 29 in the eastern region, 2,416 in the central region, 229 in the western region and two in the mid-western region were handed over to their families, said police.
Initiatives were underway to identify the bodies at different hospitals.
1,600 tourists rescued
A joint rescue team of the Nepalese Army, the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Police has rescued 1,600 tourists from Manang and Mustang and brought them to Pokhara.
A total of 10 tourists of different countries including four in Kathmandu, five in Solukhumbu, and one in Makawanpur districts were killed in the earthquake. RSS
