DDC Sales Rise by 50 Percent, New Cheese Production Plant to be Set up in Pashupatinagar
The Dairy Development Corporation's (DDC) business has grown by 50 percent, the government has claimed in its 100-day achievement report, citing a corresponding rise in sales of DDC's dairy products compared to previous levels.
The Ministry of Agricultural Development said the increase in business enabled it to pay farmers Rs 35 crores over the past two months. Outstanding dues to farmers, which stood at Rs 68 crores until mid-April, have now dropped to Rs 45 crores , the ministry said, adding that payments are becoming more timely.
DDC is also preparing to sign an agreement to export a minimum of 50 metric tonnes of ghee annually to Gulf countries. A draft agreement for the export of ghee worth Rs 50 million has already been finalised.
The corporation plans to double its cheese production, for which a cheese production plant will be established in Pashupatinagar, Koshi Province. The government's 100-day achievement report also states that paneer and cheese production will begin in Nagarkot from Shrawan 1 (mid-July).
In partnership with the private sector, DDC is preparing to operate at least 15 dedicated counters across the Kathmandu Valley starting Shrawan 1. The government also said preparations are underway to enable online sales of DDC products as part of its marketing push.
