Construction of NRNA headquarters starts in Capital
KATHMANDU:
Construction of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) headquarters commenced from today at Baluwatar, with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala laying the foundation stone of the building amidst a function. The project is scheduled to be completed within two years.
Inaugurating construction work of the building, PM Koirala said that NRNs have been playing a catalytic role in attracting more foreign direct investment into the country. He urged NRNs to increase investment in their motherland as the country needs huge investment in infrastructure, service and other job intensive sectors.
The government has been creating necessary impetus to make favourable investment
climate, as per the prime minister. “We’ll deliver the constitution at the earliest that will pave the way for economic prosperity, which is fundamental to institutionalise political achievements.”
Nepalis have witnessed many political changes that have extended various rights to the people, but due to lack of economic incentives, they are being unable to utilise the given rights, according to the prime minister. He stressed on peace, stability and development in the country as the effective means to address the needs of common people.
NRNA President Shesh Ghale said that the initiative (to establish the NRNA building) was taken to institutionalise NRNA. “Even as the NRNA movement started since 2003, it was officially registered in Nepal only after a decade, in 2013,” said Ghale, adding, “We’re building our headquarters in our motherland as a symbol of unity and to institutionalise the NRNA.”
Ghale further said that NRN community is investing in Nepal in a bid to encourage foreign investors to explore potentials in Nepal. Besides, he sought the government’s support to solve the problems of foreign employment. “We want to work with government to resolve the problems of foreign employment,” Ghale stated. “We’ve have already announced of setting up a fund for that purpose and are requesting government to put matching amount to take it forward as a joint initiative.”
As per Ghale, the total project cost of the building construction is estimated at Rs 200 million and NRNA has already received commitment of Rs 190 million from its members through voluntary contribution. The total cost of the project, including three ropanis of land, will be Rs 327.20 million.
