KATHMANDU:

The central monitoring cell of the Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM), which conducts market monitoring in the Valley, has said that it has monitored 1,800 businesses till date during this fiscal, 2014-15. The number of businesses monitored is quite high but not one case has been filed at the court in this fiscal. DoCSM is authorised to regulate the market, however, consumer rights activists have said the department has failed to regulate the market properly. DoCSM on Sunday, launched a toll free number, 16600133044, to receive grievances from the public on the occasion of the World Consumer Rights Day. — HNS

Int’l Trade Fair ends

KATHMANDU:

The five-day long international trade fair, hosted by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) concluded on Monday, with an announcement of the fifth series of the international trade fair to be organised in Kathmandu in next year. FNCCI said that more than 125,000 people visited the trade fair, which was participate by the exhibitors from Bangladesh, India, China, Pakistan, Malaysia and Bhutan apart from Nepali exhibitors. Altogether 165 stalls, out of total 340 stalls in trade fair, were occupied by foreign exhibitors, as per FNCCI. — HNS

Surveillance training

KATHMANDU:

Scientists from South Asia are here to participate in a comprehensive 10-day training on wheat rust monitoring and disease management. The 2015 SAARC (South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation) Surveillance Training Workshop, which started on Monday, aims to foster regional collaboration and equip a new generation of South Asian scientists with the tools and knowledge to manage the threat of wheat rusts. The course is being held at Nepal Agricultural Research Council’s (NARC) Khumaltar research station in Lalitpur, as per press statement. — HNS
