126 MW Power Added to Dordi Corridor: Enhancing Electricity Transmission
via Fiscal Nepal
A total of 126.84 MW of electricity has been successfully connected to the 132 KV Dordi Corridor Double Circuit Transmission Line Project. This transmission line project was constructed to facilitate the efficient transfer of electricity generated from Lamjung's Dordi River and its tributaries. The completed power projects in the area have now been linked to the transmission line.
Ramesh Poudel, the project head, was quoted as mentioning that the power transmission infrastructure in the Dordi Corridor region had been underutilized due to the lack of electricity. However, after the line was activated last Bhadra, the electricity produced has started to be connected. Poudel was quoted as stating, "To date, 118.1 MW from four projects completed in the Dordi River and 8.83 MW from the Chepe River have been successfully connected."
Within this corridor, the Super Dordi 'B' project, developed by the largest People's Hydro Power Company, has connected 54 MW. Similarly, the Dordi Khola project, constructed by Himalayan Power Partner, has connected 27 MW, while the Upper Dordi 'A' project, developed by Liberty Energy Limited, has connected 25 MW. Additionally, the Dordi-1 hydropower project, constructed by Dordikhola Jal Bidyut Company, has connected 12.1 MW. Furthermore, the Chepe Khola Small Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 8.83 MW and completed in Chepe Khola, has also been connected.
The electricity from Super Dordi 'B' was integrated into the system on the 23rd of Baisakh. The project has been producing commercial power since last month. Arjun Prasad Gautam, the project's director, was quoted as mentioning that construction began in October 2072 following the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) in 2071.
While the project was initially scheduled to be completed in 2075, with electricity generation commencing, the construction period was extended. The estimated cost of the project, initially set at Rs. 8.8 Arba, has now been revised to Rs. 10.5 Arba.
Electricity from Dordi Khola and Dordi-1 has been connected to the national transmission line since Asoj 14th and has been in commercial operation. Upper Dordi-A began commercial production from Mangsir 17th, and Chepe Khola Small Hydropower Project started supplying electricity commercially from Asoj 16th.
In 2078, during the flood season, four transmission line towers, which were completed in 2077, were swept away by the floodwaters of the Dordi River. Considering the time required for tower reconstruction, a section of the completed project's power line in the affected area was connected to the system.
After the reconstruction of the flood-damaged project, the transmission line has been fully operational since Chaitra 23, 2079. With the transmission line now fully functional, the infrastructure has been prepared to handle approximately 300 MW of electricity.
