World Bank Approves Rs 7.7 Billion for Nepal’s Clean Air Project
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a credit of Rs 7.7 billion for Nepal’s Clean Air and Prosperity Project to help reduce industrial air pollution and improve air quality management.
The project aims to reduce fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions from industrial and commercial boilers and furnaces by promoting cleaner and more efficient technologies. It will also strengthen Nepal’s national systems for monitoring and managing air quality.
According to David Sislen,, Division Director for Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka,“Air pollution is not only a public health crisis but also a significant economic burden in Nepal, costing the country more than six percent of GDP each year through health costs and lost labour productivity,”
The initiative is expected to protect millions of people from harmful pollution while supporting sustainable industrial growth.
