Portfolio is not necessary for all kinds of investors. For instance, it’s not important for investors who are actively involved in the market. But there are many people who have interest in market but are passive because they are not able to devote time. Portfolio is necessary for such investors.

General public is now realizing that they should have a portfolio. They now know that they can get better returns by investing in mutual funds than just keeping money in banks. General investors have understood that mutual fund is for them. The government has also introduced tax exemption and policies that encourage investments. There is no capital gains tax. Companies have to set aside certain chunk of their IPO for mutual funds. Overall, now there is increased awareness among general public about portfolio investment.
