Voter Turnout Reaches 33 Percent By 2 PM: EC
Voter turnout in the ongoing House of Representatives elections has reached 33 percent across the country today, according to the Election Commission.
By 2 pm, 62,20,042 votes have been cast across 165 constituencies, said EC. Of the seven provinces, Gandaki recorded the highest voter turnout at 49 percent followed by Karnali with 36 percent.
Bagmati saw 29.40 percent voter turnout. However, the Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts) recorded 47 percent turnout.
Similarly, Sudurpaschim witnessed 33 percent, while Koshi 32 percent, Lumbini 29 percent, and Madhes 28 percent.
Voting continues at 10,967 polling stations across the country with no major incidents reported so far, said the EC.
There are altogether 189,03,689 eligible voters—including 96,63,358 men, 92,40,131 women and 200 others---across the country.
A total of 65 political parties are contesting the polls with 61 electoral symbols. Altogether 3,406 candidates--3,017 male, 388 female, and 1 other--are running through the first-past-the-post electoral system.
