Voter Turnout Estimated at Approximately 60 Percent: EC

Voter turnout in the House of Representatives elections on Thursday reached around 60 percent, according to the preliminary estimate by the Election Commission.

Full details of the voting are being collected, said the EC, adding that voting remained largely peaceful across the country with only minor incidents reported. 

. There were 1,89,03,689 registered voters, including 96,63,358 male, 92,40,131 female and 200 others.

A total of 65 political parties contested the polls with 61 electoral symbols. Altogether 3,406 candidates--3,017 male, 388 female, and 1 other--are running under the first-past-the-post electoral system.
