TU Recovers Rs. 165 Million from Staff Failing to Return After Study Leave

Tribhuvan University (TU) has recovered around Rs. 165 million from teachers and staff members who failed to return to work after completing study leave or did not fulfill the mandatory service period prescribed by the university.

According to the Employee Administration Division under the TU Registrar’s Office, the university has so far recovered the amount in 75 cases as part of its ongoing efforts to recover dues from employees who breached the conditions of their study leave.

TU initiated the recovery process against teachers and staff who either did not return to their duties after completing study leave or returned but failed to serve the required period.

The amount being recovered includes salaries, allowances and other benefits received from the university during the study-leave period, along with penalties imposed under university regulations.

The university said it is continuing to review employee records and calculate outstanding amounts in additional cases. According to available records, the amount assessed in cases where calculations have already been completed stands at around Rs. 215 million.

The university is also tracing and reviewing the personal records of teachers and staff members who have remained in contact with TU while the recovery process is underway.

Against this backdrop, TU has urged teachers and staff members who failed to return to work after study leave or did not complete the mandatory service period to contact the TU Registrar’s Office by mid-January next year.

TU has warned that employees who fail to contact the university within the stipulated deadline could face legal action in accordance with the undertakings they signed with the university and prevailing TU regulations.

The university has said the recovery process will continue as it reviews outstanding study-leave cases and determines the amounts owed in cases where assessments have yet to be completed.
