Tatopani border closed due to the increasing threat of COVID-19 pandemic in Nepal to open from Oct 5

The Nepal-China northern border point, Tatopani which was obstructed due to landslide is resuming from October 5.

According to the chief district officer, Umesh Kumar Dhakal, a bilateral meeting between the officials from both countries held at Miteripul today decided to resume the border point from October 5.

The border point closed due to the increasing threat of COVID-19 pandemic in Nepal for long was further obstructed by landslides. CDO Dhakal and custom office chief, security officials had participated in the meeting from the Nepali side.

It is agreed to unload the goods coming from China at Lipingpul and Nepali vehicles will load the goods from there to Nepal. A 28- member workers team is ready at the border point to receive the goods after conducting the PCR test.

The PCR test of workers and drivers would be conducted every five days considering the possible threat of COVID-19 infection. Nepali side has further urged the Chinese side to install sirens near Kuti Lake as the lake may outburst.

With the obstruction of the border points, the Nepali market is facing an acute shortage of new arrivals from China on the eve of the Dashain festival.
