Tanahun Hydropower Dam Construction Reaches 50 Percent Completion

The construction of the 140 meter high main dam under Package-1 of the Tanahun Hydropower Project in Rishing Rural Municipality, Tanahun, has reached 50 percent completion.

According to Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari, a total of 4,24,120 cubic meters of concrete has been placed so far out of the required 850,000 cubic meters for the dam. Construction of the project began on Chaitra 7, 2081 BS.

The project management expressed confidence that the completion of the 140-meter dam will mark a significant milestone for Nepal’s energy sector. Package-1, which includes the dam and related structures, is being executed by Song Da Kalika Joint Venture and has achieved an overall progress of 59 percent.

Supporting infrastructure, including tunnels and other key structures required for dam construction, has already been completed. The Seti River has also been successfully diverted, while temporary upstream and downstream cofferdams have been constructed.
