Sustainable and Safer Building Technologies Exhibition begins
KATHMANDU, Aug 21:
Sustainable and Safer Building Technologies Exhibition began at the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk, from Thursday.
The three-day exhibition is being organized to promote construction of safe and reliable buildings in both urban and rural areas. The expo is organized jointly by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Institute of Engineering (IoE) under Tribhuvan University, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and UN Habitat Nepal.
The expo showcases more than half dozen safe, reliable and earthquake-resistant construction technologies through 15 different stalls. While exhibitors are showcasing housing construction technologies through 10 stalls, remaining five stalls are catering knowledge to visitors on sustainable housing technologies.
According to the organizers, the event also aims to discourage conventional building practices which contribute to both pollution and climate change. "Thus, we aim to promote Green Home Technology in Nepal's construction industry," Padma Sunder Joshi, Team Leader of Green Home Project of UN Habitat Nepal, said. "Especially after the earthquake, Nepal's construction industry has to be more scientific and responsible by adopting sustainable housing processes."
Meanwhile, a workshop on 'Sustainable and Safer Building Technology' was organized on the sidelines of the expo on Thursday. At the workshop, engineers made presentations on different issues related to safe and reliable construction. Participants of the workshop focused on the need to create an enabling policy to promote sustainable housing and strengthen supply chain for sustainable housing.
