Stock Market Analyst Shiva Chandra Applies for SEBON Chairmanship
In a significant move for Nepal’s capital market, well known stock market analyst Purushottam Raj Chimoriya, popularly known as "Shiva Chandra," has officially applied for the position of Chairman at the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON). Chimoriya submitted his application at the Ministry of Finance on Monday, joining the race to lead the country’s primary securities regulator.
Chimoriya is a veteran in the financial sector with over two decades of experience in market research and analysis. He previously served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asian Capital Limited for approximately seven years. He is widely recognized among retail investors for his logical and outspoken analysis of the economy and the stock market, often sharing his insights under the social media moniker "Shiva Chandra Don."
The appointment of a new SEBON Chairman has been a point of intense discussion among investors. The market community has been calling for a leadership figure who deeply understands the practical challenges of the stock exchange and can advocate for the interests of common investors. Many believe that previous leadership gaps or a lack of market depth in decision-making have hindered the proper development and modernization of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).
Currently, the selection process for the SEBON chair is a top priority for the government as the regulator plays a crucial role in approving Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), managing broker licenses, and ensuring market transparency. Investors are hopeful that an experienced candidate like Chimoriya could bring much-needed reforms and stability to the market, which has recently seen fluctuations and a demand for more transparent governance.
