Sanima Mai Hydropower Limited has been facing loss of million rupees on monthly basis due to the problem in construction of Kabeli Corridor, a 132 KV transmission line. The hydropower is in loss of Rs 6 crore 22 lakh 8 thousand as the project has been able to produce only 4 MW out of 22 MW electricity.

The Hydropower has started electricity generation from last Mangsir. Despite the accomplishment of the first part of the Kabeli Corridor project in Lakhanpur, Jhapa and Godakkhand of Illam, the actual problem lies in connection of transmission line between the towers.

‘Sanima Mai Hydropower has the capacity of 22 MW but at present it has produced only 4 MW for national broadcasting through 33KV transmission line.’ said Dr. Subarna Lal Shrestha , CEO of Sanima Mai Hydropower Project. ‘Due to the untimely construction of 132 KV transmission line, we are compelled to bring down the production of 22MW electricity generation to 4 MW from last Falgun.’ he added.

Though the dispute of getting compensation for the people in affected region is over, transmission of electricity has still not been successful.

He argues that due to the less production of electricity the hydropower has no other choice than to import the electricity in double price which has resulted in the loss of 2% royalty of government. RSS
