SAARC, Japan Sign Addendum to Implement JENESYS 2025 Phase II Programme
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Secretariat and the Government of Japan signed an addendum to the renewed memorandum outlining the guidelines for the SAARC–Japan Special Fund to implement the JENESYS 2025 Phase II programme.
The agreement was signed on Monday at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu. The memorandum was formalized by SAARC Secretary-General Md Golam Sarwar and Japan’s Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru.
According to a press release issued by the SAARC Secretariat, the Government of Japan has committed 13 million Japanese yen to support the implementation of the programme through the SAARC–Japan Special Fund. The financial support will facilitate exchange initiatives designed to deepen cooperation between Japan and SAARC member states.
The JENESYS programme focuses on strengthening people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and the countries of the SAARC region.
Under the JENESYS 2025 Phase II programme, around 20 participants from SAARC member states are expected to travel to Japan. During the visit, participants will gain first-hand knowledge of Japan’s development experience, culture, society, and technological progress.
Officials stated that the initiative is expected to enhance friendship, cooperation, and regional engagement between Japan and the SAARC region. The programme will also provide participants with opportunities to build networks and better understand Japan’s development model.
The SAARC Secretariat noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering long-term partnerships and cultural ties between Japan and South Asian countries.
